L’eau D’issey is a floral aquatic scent, created in 1992 by Issey Miyake and is described as “The world’s most beautiful and purest scent, is the scent of water on a women’s skin”. A fragrance that is what it says. Issey Miyake chose water, an essential element and source of purity, freshness and vitality, as the inspiration for its first fragrance. This perfume has become one of the great classics of the world of Perfumery.
The notes for L’eau D’issey are: Top notes of Cyclamen, Rose, Melon, Freesia, Lotus and Calone. The middle notes of Carnation, Lily, Water Peony and Lily-of-the-valley, and base notes of Exotic Woods, Tuberose, Musk, Sandal wood, Amber, Osmanthus and Cedar.
My Review of L’eau D’Issey
This is different, and in a good way. There is no other aquatic perfume which smells so fresh and creamy. L’eau D’issey is a small pond, in a valley, covered with flowers. The flowers in L’eau D’issey are wet, not a fleeting dried out smell, or a watered down version, but the fresh drenched in water smell. It is divine, and a holy grail of all aquatic perfumes. I am not a fan of ozonic perfumes, but this does not remind of the sea, and is actually a waterfall, fresh and cold.
L’eau D’issey starts off on a sharp screechy note, which is present only fleetingly, and soon transforms to a delicate bouquet of dewy flowers. Very clean and cold, like a shower fresh scent. The melon brings a ripe fruitiness to it, without being too sweet. The florals are easily balanced by the woods. It essentially seems like a walk in a meadow, after a rain, which soon merges into a forest.
A lovely, delicate and essentially feminine smell. L’eau D’issey is an elegant, sensual and classy scent, which is timeless in its appeal. Despite being delicate, the sillage and lasting power are unparalleled. Resist the urge to douse yourself in it, as it lasts and lasts, and can easily become over powering if applied too much.
The bottle is beautiful as well, conical in frosted glass, with a silver cap, and looks elegant. This is the perfect summer’s day scent, refreshing and icy cold.
Will I recommend it?
Definitely yes!! It is brilliant, but do try L’eau D’issey Florale as well, a tad more floral version of the original, and something I prefer.
