The official description of this L’eau D’Issey Absolue, as given by Issey Miyake, sounds like a lot of mumbo-jumbo. “Cloaked in light during the day, the night-blooming-jasmine opens and shines only once the sun has set, leaving in its trail the scent of its secret.
L’eau D’Issey Absolue, a floral and luminous fragrance, like the secret of this precious flower which reveals itself only once night has fallen.”
The notes in L’eau D’Issey Absolue are top notes of Lotus and Freesia, Middle notes of Tuberose, Honey, and night blooming cereus, and bottom notes of Woody notes and bourbon vanilla.
My Review of L’eau D’Issey Absolue
This is another flanker of the Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey, launched in 2013. It shares the same DNA as that of the original L’eau D’Issey, while still being original in its own right. They share very few common notes amongst them, with L’eau D’Issey Absolue having a generous helping of honey which makes it softer and adds depth.
The opening of L’eau D’Issey Absolue is very similar to the original, due to the lotus, but it soon transforms into honeyed florals, as compared to the aquatic florals of original. L’eau D’Issey Absolue is creamy and sweet, with the aquatic lotus in the background. It never completely digresses from the original, however is different enough to be recognized as a different scent. It is a classy summer day and evening scent, and can easily go on to be used at night.
The base is remarkably similar to the original, the vanilla not very apparent on its own but adding a creaminess to the entire composition. It does not contain the sharp edges of the original, but is soft, sweet, and delicately floral. L’eau D’Issey Absolue is a very interesting take on the original, and individual enough to be a separate scent.
L’eau D’Issey Absolue comes in the same conical bottle, in a honey amber hue, with golden stopper. The bottle is beautiful, and the colors very accurately depict the juice inside. The longevity and sillage are good.
Will I recommend it: Yes, it is a good perfume if you are a fan of the original, and want something more appropriate for evening, or found the original a bit too sharp. However, Issey Miyake L’eau D’issey Florale still remains my favorite flanker of the series.
